Takeaki Fukuyama was named president and CEO of Tokyo-based Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC), an independent company of Toshiba subsidiary Toshiba America Inc. TAEC makes semiconductors, flash memory-based storage solutions, displays and rechargeable batteries.   . . .   Hover-Davis Inc., a Rochester, N.Y. maker of component delivery systems for the electronics assembly industry, has opened a sales and support center in Shenzhen, China. Forkey, chief scientist at Precision Optics Corp., was included among the 10 most important scientific breakthroughs of 2003 by the journal Science. The collaborative work, "Myosin V Walks Hand-over-Hand: Single Fluorophore Imaging with 1.5 nanometer Localization" was originally published in the journal in June 2003 and described the development of a new optical microscope for measuring the location of individual fluorescent molecules with unprecedented accuracy. The paper also described the use of this technique to observe the motion of specific parts of individual protein molecules, revealing previously unobserved structural changes in the protein.
