Edmund Industrial Optics announced it has launched a new magnetorheological finishing (MRF) optical polishing capability at its corporate headquarters, in Barrington, N.J. MRF is a polishing technology in which a "smart fluid" changes viscosity when exposed to a magnetic field. The company said the technology will enable it to perform high-precision raster polishing of a variety of prisms and that it is ideal for polishing visible and near-infrared optics. Edmund also announced it has released its January 2004 catalog of more than 10,000 optic and optical component products, including multi-element lenses, lens coatings, imaging systems and opto-mechanical equipment for applications including semiconductor manufacturing, industrial metrology, and medical instrumentation. For more information, visit:; click on "catalog request.". . .Kopin Corp. announced that its CyberEVF electronic viewfinder system is being used in Minolta's eight-megapixel DiMAGE A2 digital still camera (DSC), the first in its new line of professional-class photography equipment. Kopin said its system is the highest-resolution viewfinder ever used in a DSC. The DiMAGE A2 is being sold in Asia and is expected to be available in the US by the end of this month.
