Jun 2004
MicroDisplay Corp. an Atlanta-based maker of liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) components, announced that Uneed Systems, a Korean vendor of high-definition television (HDTV) projection engines, TVs and monitors, has selected its E-WX 1280x720 single-panel LCOS for use in its rear-projection TV products. MicroDisplay and Uneed are demonstrating their products jointly at the Uneed booth (3771, Korea Pavilion) at Infocomm 2004, being held this week in Atlanta. . . . The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has named Henry P. Hall, a scientist retired from GenRad Inc., as the recipient of the 2004 IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement. Hall is being recognized for his contributions to the development of impedance bridges and standards and to the application of microprocessors to impedance measurement science. His breakthrough contribution was to apply then-new microprocessor technology to the field of electrical measurement, rendering impedance measurement instruments far faster while reducing their cost. The award, which includes a bronze medal, a certificate and a cash prize of $10,000, is sponsored by Keithley Instruments Inc., a Cleveland, Ohio, maker of electronic test and measurement instruments. . . . Mykrolis Corp., a Billerica, Mass., supplier of components and subsystems to the semiconductor industry, announced it has appointed Peter S. Kirlin as vice president of business development responsible for strategic planning activities, including mergers and acquisitions. Kirlin was previously CEO and chairman of the board at Dupont Photomasks Inc., a developer and producer of advanced photomasks for the semiconductor and microelectronics industry.
