Michael R. Lightner, professor of electrical and computer engineering and computer science at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Colorado at Boulder, was selected 2005 president-elect of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at its annual meeting, held this month in San Antonio, Texas. Lightner will succeed 2005 IEEE President W. Cleon Anderson, chief project engineer at L-3 Communication Systems-West in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ralph W. Wyndrum Jr., president of Wyndrum Associates-Executive Consultants, was elected IEEE-USA president-elect. They will begin their terms on Jan. 1, 2006. The IEEE also elected new officers, to serve one-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2005: Moshe Kam, vice president, educational activities; Leah H. Jamieson, vice president, publication services and products; Marc T. Apter, vice president, regional activities; Mohamed El-Hawary, IEEE secretary; and Joseph V. Lillie, IEEE treasurer.    . . .    Felix Zandman, chairman and CEO of Vishay Intertechnology Inc., a Malvern, Pa.-based manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, announced he will transfer his CEO position to Gerald Paul, president and COO. Zandman, in addition to serving as chairman, will assume the newly created positions of CTO and chief business development officer. He will oversee Vishay's research and development efforts, its investment in high-tech startup companies and its mergers and acquisitions program. Paul will remain COO of the company. The changes will be effective Jan. 1. Zandman co-founded Vishay in 1962, with the introduction of a product line based on foil resistor technology that he invented.
