Andor Technology, a maker of instruments for the global spectroscopy and scientific imaging markets for OEM and research customers, announced it has moved into a new 50,000-square-foot facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where the company is based. Andor, which was admitted to the London Stock Exchange's AIM market in December, has US headquarters in Connecticut and sales offices in Boston, New Jersey, San Diego and Atlanta and in Tokyo. It recently launched its iXon camera, based on electron multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) technology, which can measure light to just one photon in as little as a billionth of a second.    . . .    Rod Moore has been named director of technology and strategic development at Denton Vaccum Inc., a Moorestown, N.J., maker of systems to deposit ultrathin metallic and dielectric coatings. Moore gained thin-film experience working for organizations such as Corning, Essilor, TetraPak and the US Army and has worked with ophthalmic and precision optical products. His experience with plastics substrates, particularly PMMA, introduced him to Denton when he defined deposition process parameters for the supply of multiple large Integrity coating systems to a Chinese customer who is producing lenses for projection TV applications.    . . .    Thermo Electron Corp., of Waltham, Mass., has opened a new manufacturing facility in Shanghai, China. The facility will add up to 300 new jobs when it is operating at capacity; it will initially produce 10 products, expanding to more than 20 products by 2006. Thermo will add metal detection and environmental instruments to products made at the site, which include absorption instruments, plate readers and sample preparation equipment. Thermo said the facility will enhance its global cost reduction and streamline manufacturing processes with its proximity to low-cost sources of components. China currently accounts for five percent of the company's total revenue. In addition to the new site, Thermo operates a manufacturing facility in JinQiao. Commercial locations include major offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong and a new office in Guangzhou.
