Carlos B. Roundy, PhD, president of laser beam analysis company Spiricon Inc., based in Logan, Utah, was named outstanding alumnus of the year (2004-2005) by Utah State University's electrical and computer engineering department. The award will be presented Friday at a department meeting and banquet. Roundy received a BS degree and MS degree in electrical engineering from Utah State in 1964 and 1965, respectively. He received a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1973, while working on the electronic engineering staff of Micro Magnetic Industries in Palo Alto, Calif., and as a consultant for Molectron Corp. in Sunnyvale. He also held an engineering position at Bell Telephone Laboratories and worked for a year as a scientist for the Institute for Space Research in Brazil. He founded Spiricon Inc. in 1978; the company evolved from a camera manufacturer into a maker of test instruments to measure laser beam profiles. Roundy received an MBA from the University of Phoenix during that time. In 2004, he founded Spiricon Power Products Inc. to manufacture laser power meters, which the company introduced last month. . . . Photonic Products, a manufacturer of optoelectronic components based on semiconductor diode laser technology, announced it has moved to larger premises in Hatfield Broad Oak, Hertfordshire, England. The new headquarters, with an area of 1242 square meters, is a high-specification, light industrial unit with a large production area, workshops, warehousing and offices.
