BOC Edwards, a Crawley, England-based provider of process materials, equipment and services to various industries, announced it was selected to supply a majority of the vacuum pump systems for an LG.Philips LCD plant now under construction in Paju, Korea. LG.Philips LCD, Seoul, is a leading manufacturer of TFT-LCD (thin film transistor-liquid crystal display) panels. The order includes iHxK and diFxK vacuum systems specifically designed by BOC Edwards to support LCD process applications. The diFxK vacuum pumps are built by Songwon Edwards Ltd., a BOC Edwards operating entity in Chunan, Korea. . . . The Photonics Cluster (UK), based in Birmingham, England, and the National Physical Laboratory, the UK's national standards lab, located in Middlesex, have teamed up to provide a free measurement consultancy to companies that wish to apply photonics technology in product development. The service is being provided through the Department of Trade and Industry's DTI National Measurement System, which provides measurement standards and calibration facilities to the UK.
