Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing announced it has signed a multiyear agreement to provide volume manufacturing for Infineon Technologies AG. The agreement includes Infineon's OptiMOS technology, with potential extension to its CoolMOS technology. These processes are used to manufacture power MOSFETs (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors), which are employed in a variety of computer, communications, consumer, industrial and automotive applications where fast switching of high voltage or high current is required.    . . .    GE Medical Systems and Deus Technologies have announced a new digital computer-aided detection (CAD) technology, RapidScreen Digital, that identifies regions of interest on digital chest images and will help improve the detection of early-stage lung cancers.    . . .    Christopher Mather has been named CEO and a director of Ion Optics, a developer of microelectronic mechanical systems (MEMS)-based infrared gas sensors. Edward Johnson, the company's founder, will remain with the company as CTO and a director. Ion Optics said its SensorChip, which uses its patented photonic bandgap technology, will miniaturize highly accurate infrared gas sensors onto a MEMS chip, which will lower costs and open market opportunities in building controls, medical and industrial markets.
