Dopant Level Improves Organic LEDs

A team from Ludwig Maximilian Universität in Munich, Institut Ackermannweg in Mainz and Universität Potsdam, all in Germany, has announced the results of a study of organic LEDs that may boost the efficiency and output of the devices. According to a report in the June 8 issue of Nature, the researchers found that the level of doping affects barrier-to-hole injection.

The researchers studied the impact of poly(4,49-dimethoxy-bithiophene) as an anode for 436-nm LEDs. They found that the luminosity of a highly doped LED was 2.5 times that of its lower-doped counterpart and four times that of an indium tin oxide reference.
