Dow to Begin Large-Scale Manufacturing of Cadmium-Free QDs

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 24, 2014 — Dow Chemical Co. plans to begin construction of the world’s first large-scale, cadmium-free quantum dot manufacturing operation at its facility in Cheonan, South Korea.

With production expected to begin in the first half of next year, the facility will enable the manufacture of millions of quantum-dot TVs and other display applications, the company said. Dow’s Trevista quantum dots are tunable for a wider color palette and improved color saturations compared to other display technologies, the company said.

Dow licensed Nanoco Group plc’s cadmium-free quantum dot technology in 2013. The high-volume manufacturing process will use Nanoco’s molecular-seeding technology.
