Dynasil Corp. of America, based in Watertown, Mass., has incorporated a business unit, Dynasil Biomedical Corp., in Rochester, Minn., to pursue opportunities in the field. Daniel Ericson has joined the new unit as its scientific leader with responsibility for research and development. The unit purchased for $300,000 Ericson’s rights to six biomedical technologies invented or co-invented by him, as well as certain rights to royalties and milestone payments if the technologies are successfully developed. Several of the technologies are jointly owned with the Mayo Clinic, where Ericson previously worked. All in the early stage of development, the inventions include a tuberculosis test, a tissue sealant and diagnostic tests using handheld optical detection systems. The unit will collaborate with Dynasil’s RMD Research organization and its RMD Instruments business.
