Emcore Corp. announced on Oct. 24 that flood waters had penetrated the offices and manufacturing floor space of its primary contract manufacturer in Thailand. The water flowed into areas used to manufacture fiber optic products, and some of the manufacturing and test equipment was submerged.

Seasonal rains that were heavier than usual have resulted in widespread flooding in Thailand over the past several weeks. The floods mainly are affecting the provinces in central Thailand and a few provinces in the north and northeast, according the Thai government.

Emcore employees in the area remain safe, the company said.

The company is in the process of assessing the damage. It now expects that the flooding will have significant impact on the company's operations and its ability to meet customer demand for its fiber optic products in the December quarter.

The contract manufacturer believes it is unlikely that production will start up again at the main facility during the remainder of the December quarter.

Emcore has put together a team to manage this issue and to work on ramping up capabilities to manufacture some products at its own facilities.

Emcore provides compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite and terrestrial solar power markets.
