Exalos Develops Crystal Growth Method for Micro-LEDs

ZURICH, March 7, 2016 — Semiconductor light source developer Exalos AG has developed new methods for growing crystals for micro-LED production, designed for direct projection displays, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications.

Developed in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, the epitaxial growth technology leverages patent-pending methods of producing vertical emitters with robustness and performance.

“For the next generation of display, micro-LEDs will be a critical component for efficiency and brightness, and Exalos has now developed methods for creating micro-LEDs that have the performance and the features required for a wide range of applications, particularly in AR and VR,” said Christian Velez, CEO of Exalos. “Our growth equipment and our growth techniques are unparalleled, and we are ready to seek out partners for bringing new display products to market.”

Exalos designs, develops, manufactures and sells advanced light source solutions based on superluminescent LEDs and external cavity tunable lasers.
