SAN DIEGO, Nov. 2 -- The US Food and Drug Administration has cleared the way for Cosmos Medical Technology Inc. to market two new lasers from Paris-based Quantel Medical: the Athos hair removal laser and the Viridis laser, which is used for removing unwanted blemishes.
Although many hair removal lasers have been effective in removing hair, many patients have experienced skin discoloration problems and pain, said John Clark, chairman of Cosmos. By developing the optimal laser parameters, the Athos, long-pulsed YAG laser, has hadexcellent results in all skin types, even tanned skin, with no adverse side effects and virtually painless to the patient.
The Viridis is a pulsed laser that is used for removing spider veins and unwanted blemishes. Both lasers use a new technology called Multipulse, which is a train of pulsed laser light that can reach deep into targeted areas to selectively remove unwanted veins.
