!%FEI Co.%! of Hillsboro, Ore., has paid $30.5 million for Aspex Corp. of Delmont, Pa., which makes scanning electron microscopes for environmentally demanding military, industrial and factory floor applications. Aspex makes an electron microscope that is paired with FEI’s software as part of the QEMSCAN WellSite product FEI markets to the oil and gas industries. FEI now owns the hardware and software that have contributed to its growth in the natural resources market. Aspex generated $10 million in sales for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.
