FTTH TERMINOLOGY
The Fiber-to-the-Home councils of Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific have released a document titled “FTTH Council — Definition of Terms.” A collaborative effort of the groups, the downloadable five-page resource aims to reduce the various terms used in the industry to a well-defined subset. The intention is to make it possible for council members and others in the FTTH community to speak in commonly understood terms when discussing related statistics and network characteristics. The terms “fiber-to-the-home” and “fiber-to-the-building” are defined. Terminology for cable plant topology, access protocol, network usage and size, user categories and services also is presented.
