Gentex Names Mark Newton VP Purchasing and Photonics
Dec 2006
Gentex Corp., a Zeeland, Mich.-based manufacturer of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and commercial fire protection products, announced the appointment of Mark Newton as vice president of purchasing and photonics. Newton brings over 22 years of manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing experience in optoelectronics and automotive lighting to the company. "Mark and his group were instrumental in the development of the recently announced Gentex rear-camera display mirror," said Gentex Chairman of the Board and CEO Fred Bauer. Newton joined Gentex in 2004 after working as a Gentex optoelectronics supplier for six years. He began his career in 1984 with a startup company that invented an infrared touch computer interface and has served in manufacturing engineering and management positions in Illinois and Texas.

That branch of science involved in the study and utilization of the motion, emissions and behaviors of currents of electrical energy flowing through gases, vacuums, semiconductors and conductors, not to be confused with electrics, which deals primarily with the conduction of large currents of electricity through metals.
A sub-field of photonics that pertains to an electronic device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
