Hexagon Acquires CADS Additive

STOCKHOLM, July 13, 2023 — Hexagon AB, a provider of digital reality solutions including sensor, software, and autonomous technologies, has acquired CADS Additive GmbH, a provider of specialized software that enables users to prepare designs for metal additive manufacturing. CADS Additive simplifies the process of 3D printing on powder bed fusion machines. The software guides users through the build preparation, helping companies turn design files into printer instructions and improve their manufacturing productivity.

CADS Additive has been a partner of Hexagon since 2021, and the company’s AM Studio software is already connected to Hexagon's Nexus digital reality platform. The software will complete Hexagon’s Nexus-enabled AM workflow, applying its technology portfolio to computer-aided design model preparation, build preparation, simulation-based optimizations, quality and production intelligence, and the automation of computer-aided manufacturing to finish parts.

additive manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is a manufacturing process that involves creating three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer. This is in contrast to traditional manufacturing methods, which often involve subtracting or forming materials to achieve the desired shape. In additive manufacturing, a digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and this digital model is then sliced into thin cross-sectional layers. The...
machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
3d printing
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), is a manufacturing process that builds three-dimensional objects layer by layer from a digital model. This technology allows the creation of complex and customized structures that would be challenging or impossible with traditional manufacturing methods. The process typically involves the following key steps: Digital design: A three-dimensional digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This...
