ICORS to put spotlight on Raman spectroscopy

The XXIV International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS) will be held Aug. 10-15 on the campus of Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany. The program will address major developments throughout the broad field of Raman spectroscopy, from ultrashort and ultrasmall techniques to applications in the life sciences, geology, art, forensics and more.

Conference sessions will run from Monday morning to Friday afternoon. On Tuesday, attendees may choose from among several social excursions; a conference dinner will take place Wednesday.

Keynote lectures will be given in the mornings, and there will be a wide variety offered. Keynote speakers and topics include (but are not limited to):

• Zhong-Qun Tian, Xiamen University, China: The Past, Present and Future of Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy.

• Kishan Dholakia, University of St. Andrews, Scotland: Shaping the Future of Raman Spectroscopy.

• Nick Stone, University of Exeter, England: Prospects for Clinical Raman Diagnostics and Theranostics.

• Peter Nordlander, Rice University, USA: Quantum Plasmonics and Surface-Enhanced Spectroscopies.

For the first time, the ICORS conference also will include the presentation of the Raman Award, which has been established to honor outstanding achievements in the field of Raman spectroscopy. There will be a lifetime-achievement award, an innovative-technology award and a junior-researcher award.
