II-VI and LITE-ON Partner on Lidar

II-VI Inc. has signed a strategic partnership agreement with optoelectronic specialist LITE-ON Technology Corp. The partnership will enable the volume manufacturing and commercialization of packaged semiconductor lasers for lidar systems in order to meet high demand for automotive, commercial, and industrial applications.

The two companies will leverage their respective high-volume manufacturing platforms for semiconductor lasers and optoelectronic packaging to jointly commercialize a portfolio of laser products spanning from NIR to shortwave infrared, with the first product expected to launch in mid-2020.

II-VI’s portfolio of products for lidar includes laser sources, filters, mirrors, lenses, windows, and thermoelectric coolers. LITE-On provides optoelectronics, information technology, and storage device components for a wide variety of customers.
