ANN ARBOR, Mich., and JENA, Germany, Sept. 16, 2011 — As IMRA America prepares to face IPG Photonics in court over its six-year fiber laser patent suit, the company announced it has signed a more expansive licensing agreement with Jenoptik Laser for its patent covering high-power fiber lasers.

This agreement on US Patent No. 5,818,630 will bolster Jenoptik’s Laser & Optical Systems business and will increase its competitiveness in a growing market for high-power fiber lasers, especially in the automotive manufacturing sector.

IMRA has been in a patent war with Massachusetts-based IPG Photonics over that specific patent since 2006. (See: IPG Takes Hit in Fiber Laser Patent Suit) A jury trial is scheduled to begin this month.
