IPG Opens Laser Microprocessing Center
Feb 2009
IPG Photonics Corp., based in Oxford, Mass., has opened an 8000-sq-ft laser microprocessing applications facility that will concentrate on the advancement of laser microprocessing for the photovoltaic and medical device industries. Located in Santa Clara, Calif., it will also work with IPG's other applications facilities around the world. IPG Photonics also announced that it has named Tony Hoult, an industry veteran with over 22 years of hands-on laser applications experience, particularly in the field of fiber lasers, as general manager of West Coast operations.

The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
