OXFORD, Mass., Nov. 14 -- IPG Photonics, designer and manufacturer of high-performance fiber lasers and amplifiers, will supply eye-safe high-power erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) to LightPointe for its carrier-class optical transmission equipment. EDFAs are critical components in free-space optical (FSO) technology that delivers high-speed communications solutions to service providers faster, more cost-effectively and safer than traditional fixed wireless microwave technology. IPG Photonics and LightPointe signed a long-term supply agreement for IPG's high-performance and high-output power fiber amplifiers operating in the 1.5 µm spectral band. Deliveries begin this month. The value of the agreement was not disclosed.
