ITAA Says FCC Decision Kills Broadband Choice

ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 27 -- The recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision to stop requiring regional bell operating companies to offer broadband-enabling fiber optic communications networks to competitive Internet service providers "has killed consumers' chances to enjoy the benefits of today's competitive broadband information services market," said Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) President Harris Miller.

"A competitive ISP market has helped transform the Internet into a powerful communications and technology tool for both individuals and organizations, stimulating small business development and benefiting the entire economy. The FCC decision for broadband is likely to reduce the number of ISPs consumers can choose from by about 99 percent," Miller said in a statement.
