Illumitex Secures Funding, Hires CEO

LED maker Illumitex Inc. of Austin, Texas, has secured an additional $9.3 million in funding to develop its lighting fixture product lines and to provide ongoing support for the development of proprietary precision beam packaged LEDs. Investors participating in the funding round include NEA, Morgan Creek Capital, Mousse Partners, Apex Venture Partners, DFJ Mercury and Syngenta Ventures. Illumitex also has hired Chris Hammelef as chief executive officer. He is the former vice president and general manager of outdoor lighting company Hadco Group, a division of Philips. Illumitex is now focusing on lighting fixtures as its main product offering.
