Infinera Provides DWDM to Connect Sicily with Europe

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 9, 2019 — Infinera, a supplier of networking solutions, announced it is providing Italy's largest internet service provider with optical network hardware in the construction of the Nibble Network, a new ultralong-haul photonic backbone that will link Sicily with the major points of presence and data centers in Europe.

For its Nibble Network, the internet service provider Sparkle will leverage Infinera’s XT-3600 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) (an optical multiplexing technology used to increase bandwidth over existing fiber networks), small form factor, low power consumption, and interoperability with its existing Infinera network.

This integration, Infinera officials said, will simplify operations and help Sparkle increase on-demand capacity for customers upon request without network overprovisioning. With the XT-3600, Sparkle is able to deliver 100-Gb cloud-scale services in a compact form factor while automating service activation through Instant Bandwidth.
