Intevac Camera Selected for Military Helicopter Platform
SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 9, 2013 — A digital low-light sensor developed by Intevac Photonics, a subsidiary of Intevac Inc., has been selected by an undisclosed military customer for use in a night-vision-based landing system.
The ISIE10 sensor in the digital camera is based on a patented electron bombarded active pixel sensor (EBAPS) design of digital imaging sensors for extreme low-light level detection. The camera, operating in the visible and near-IR, will assist pilots with safe landings by sending pertinent data directly to the crew’s helmet-mounted display, reducing the need to look into the cockpit for speed and other vital information.
“The unique capability of the ISIE10 EBAPS camera is that it provides high definition imaging in both day and night conditions that are critical to helicopter landing system applications,” said Drew Brugal, executive vice president and general manager of Intevac Photonics.
The company has partnered with Sekai Electronics Inc. of Newtown, Conn., for the first fielding of the camera.
