Iphotonics Augments Optical Manufacturing Capability with New Splicing Technology

GLEN BURNIE, Md., March 8 -- In an effort to enhance the scope and sophistication of its optical assembly and manufacturing services, Iphotonics has acquired Fujikura's latest factory specialty splicer units.
In addition to accommodating a wider array of fiber combination specifications, the Fujikura equipment delivers two other interrelated benefits. By virtue of their ability during splicing operations to clamp on to either the 250 µm UV acrylate coating or the 900 µm buffer coating, the system achieves high strength splices within shortened cleave lengths, said Iphotonics.
"We are able to achieve extraordinarily short cleave lengths with obvious advantages in minimizing the amount of exposed cladding while enhancing the integrity of the splice," said Janet Johnson, sales engineer at Iphotonics.
