Jenoptik Wins $10M Patriot Missile Contract
JENA, Germany, Sept. 30, 2011 — Jenoptik Group announced Thursday that its Defense & Civil Systems Div. has received an order worth more than $10 million to provide electric power supplies for the Patriot air defense missile system.
The contract was awarded by the US Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) and also includes associated spares packages, special tools and test equipment. Deliveries will be made in 2012.
Patriot is a ground-based, medium-range system used to defend aircrafts, tactical ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. The systems will supply power to the missile's radar and fire control panel and are intended for use in a country in the Far East, Jenoptik said.
Based in Altenstadt, Germany, Jenoptik's Defense & Civil Systems Div. has provided power supplies for the Patriot system since the early 1980s.
Jenoptik said it is expanding its production capacities at the Altenstadt site because of strong demand; last fall, the division received an order in excess of $20 million to supply similar systems.
The division is one of five operated by integrated optoelectronics group Jenoptik; the others include Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology and Traffic Solutions.
