Labsphere Makes Engineering Appointments

To position the company for future growth, Labsphere has announced two appointments in its engineering department. Greg McKee was promoted to vice president of engineering, while Dr. Dan Scharpf assumes McKee’s previous position as general manager of the Systems Business unit.

In his new role, McKee will be responsible for all aspects of engineering and technical development, including the direction of product development for software, light measurement and uniform source systems, and custom solutions for customer-specific applications.

A member of the board of directors, McKee will collaborate on strategic plans for the growth of the company. McKee, who has served the company for 23 years, has held a number of technical and marketing management positions.

Scharpf will manage all aspects of sales and production of custom systems, overseeing a group of engineers focusing on identifying and designing custom solutions for light measurement and remote sensing applications.

Scharpf joined the company two years ago as sales manager for the unit. Before that, he had acquired more than 20 years of experience in laboratory testing, data analysis, and simulation and analytical modeling in thermal analysis, acoustics, aerodynamics and light measurement.

A Halma company, Labsphere designs and manufactures precision radiometric and photometric test and measurement products that address the needs of the aerospace, electronic imaging, LED, lighting, medical imaging and optics industries.

optical coatings
Optical coatings are thin layers of materials applied to optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, filters, and prisms, to modify their reflective and transmissive properties. These coatings are designed to enhance the performance of optical systems by controlling the way light interacts with the surfaces of the components. The primary purposes of optical coatings include: Antireflection coating: This type of coating is designed to reduce reflections from the surfaces of optical...
remote sensing
Remote sensing is a method of data collection and observation where information about objects, areas, or phenomena on Earth's surface is gathered from a distance, typically using sensors onboard satellites, aircraft, drones, or other platforms. This technique enables the monitoring and analysis of Earth's surface and atmosphere without direct physical contact. Remote sensing systems capture electromagnetic radiation (such as visible light, infrared, microwave, or radio waves) reflected or...
