WESTERVILLE, Ohio, August 26 -- Lake Shore Cryotronics Inc., a manufacturer of cryogenic and magnetic sensors and instruments as well as magnetic and electronic characterization systems, announced today the acquisition of Desert Cryogenics, which makes a line of cryogenic and vacuum micromanipulated probe stations for testing the electronic and magnetotransport properties of chips, wafers and packaged devices. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Desert Cryogenic systems can be configured with horizontal or vertical field (superconducting) magnets, high-resolution microscopes and CCD cameras for precision positioning of the probe tips on the wafer or device under test.

Lake Shore CEO Michael Swartz said, "The acquisition of Desert fits well with our commitment to invest in technologies that will serve our present client base. We believe Desert probe stations can be used as platforms upon which various test systems can be developed."

Desert Cryogenics will continue to operate in Tucson, Ariz., as a division of Lake Shore Cryotronics Inc.
