Lattice Materials Begins Witness Sample Stocking Program

BOZEMAN, Mont., July 6, 2010 — Lattice Materials announced recently that it has started stocking thin film coating witness samples for its customers as a result of the growing demand for rapid delivery and competitive pricing.

The sample stocking program will take the burden and expense of inventory off its customers and is anticipated to improve their experience with the company.

With the program, customers can now save money in three ways, according to Peter Brown, sales and marketing manager at the Lattice Materials. They can now buy in smaller quantities than when it ran a polishing operation just for orders; they receive fast delivery without having to pay any expedite fees; and they can stock smaller quantities and save on inventory costs because delivery is within a few days.

Lattice Materials is a provider of germanium and silicon infrared optical blanks, curves, CNC machined parts and thin film deposition materials. Its parts can be found in night vision goggles, infrared cameras, missiles and military aircraft.

Glossary
germanium
A crystalline semiconductor material that transmits in the infrared.
infrared
Infrared (IR) refers to the region of the electromagnetic spectrum with wavelengths longer than those of visible light, but shorter than those of microwaves. The infrared spectrum spans wavelengths roughly between 700 nanometers (nm) and 1 millimeter (mm). It is divided into three main subcategories: Near-infrared (NIR): Wavelengths from approximately 700 nm to 1.4 micrometers (µm). Near-infrared light is often used in telecommunications, as well as in various imaging and sensing...
optical coatings
Optical coatings are thin layers of materials applied to optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, filters, and prisms, to modify their reflective and transmissive properties. These coatings are designed to enhance the performance of optical systems by controlling the way light interacts with the surfaces of the components. The primary purposes of optical coatings include: Antireflection coating: This type of coating is designed to reduce reflections from the surfaces of optical...
