Lumentum Completes NeoPhotonics Acquisition: Week in Brief: 08/05/22

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 5, 2022 — Lumentum Holdings completed its acquisition of NeoPhotonics Corp., less than a week after obtaining receipt of antitrust clearance in China. The companies struck the deal in November 2021.

WENDELSTEIN, Germany — Deutsche Private Equity (DPE) acquired a majority stake in Sill Optics from Pinova, which took over the company from its former owners in 2019. Sill Optics CEO Christoph Sieber, together with CFO Benjamin Sauter, remains a major shareholder under DPE. Sill Optics manufactures optomechanical subsystems, multielement objectives, large-illumination optics, and precision components.

MAINZ, Germany — SCHOTT established SCHOTT Pharma AG & Co. KGaA as a stand-alone company for its pharmaceutical business. The spinout provides opportunities for growth strategies, including a potential IPO, SCHOTT CFO Jens Schulte said.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — AvicenaTech Corp. secured $25 million in series A financing from the Samsung Catalyst Fund, Cerberus Capital Management, Clear Ventures, and Micron Ventures. AvicenaTech develops microLED-based chip-to-chip interconnects. Its LightBundle technology is based on arrays of GaN micro-emitters that can be integrated into high-performance CMOS integrated chips.


KFAR SAVA, Israel — The MicroLED Industry Association (MIA) concluded its kickoff meeting Aug. 2 and announced its work plan for the coming quarter. The association has accrued more than 15 members since its inception, including Coherent, 3D-Micromac, and Radiant Vision Systems. MIA was established to help accelerate the adoption of microLED display technologies and to promote its member companies and their technologies and products.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Test and measurement company Keysight Technologies collaborated with Nokia to demonstrate a public 800GE test, validating the readiness of next-generation fiber optic technology. The readiness testing was conducted at Nokia’s private SReXperts customer event in Madrid in June and included Keysight’s AresONE 800GE Layer 1-3 800GE line rate test platform and the Nokia 7750 Service Routing platform.
