TORONTO, Aug. 1, 2025 — Xanadu and Hyperlight, an integrated photonics company,  demonstrated waveguide losses <2 dB/m in thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) with a corresponding switch loss of ~20 milli-decibels, among the lowest loss values reported for an electro-optic switch serving photonic quantum computing applications, according to the companies. This result was performed in a high-volume semiconductor production facility capable of fabricating wafers at the volumes required for commercial photonic quantum computing.

SHEFFIELD, England — Quantum computing company, Aegiq, and single-photon detection company Pixel Photonics partnered to bring their respective technologies together on a shared photonic platform. The collaboration will combine Aegiq's single-photon sources with Pixel Photonics' waveguide integrated superconducting nanowire detectors. The partnership is a step toward a scalable and practical quantum computing stack, the companies said.

TORRANCE, Calif. — Luminit, a holographic optics company, opened a fourth production facility that specializes in high-volume holographic optical elements. The facility will use roll-to-roll technology to manufacture volume Bragg grating optical film used in windshield displays for vehicles and trucks, aerospace head-up displays, and military gunsights. Volume Bragg gratings will provide brightness, angular control, and ultra-thin form factors toward these products. The roll-to-roll production method will increase the existing output of large-format nano-structured optical films during manufacturing. The facility marks Luminit’s fourth manufacturing building at its Los Angeles campus.

NEURIED, Germany — Opto Microscopy Solutions opened a new branch office in Southern California, and appointed Thomas Spieker managing director for its U.S. operations. Spieker has a Ph.D. in biology and 25 years of experience in the US.. microscopy market. In addition to the expansion, Opto Microscopy Solutions plans to expand its business of imaging modules.

GENEVA — STMicroelectronics acquired NXP Semiconductors’ microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors business, which focuses on sensors for automotive safety and industrial applications. The acquisition, which carries a price tag of up to $950 million, adds to STMicroelectronics’ portfolio of MEMS sensor technology, specifically within the automotive and industrial sectors. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026.
