Memsic Hires Gary O'Brien as Engineering VP
Oct 2007
Memsic Inc. announced that Gary O'Brien, PhD, recently joined the company as vice president of engineering and will oversee all product design and development for its engineering teams in Chicago, China, and at its headquarters in Andover, Mass. O'Brien came to Memsic with over 14 years experience in the design and development of multiple sensor technologies including accelerometer, gyro and pressure sensors. He joined Motorola's Sensor Products Div. in Tempe, Ariz., as a mixed signal circuit design engineer in 1993. From 1993 through 2005, he developed multiple sensor systems for Motorola and its spinoff company, Freescale Semiconductor. O'Brien currently holds nine patents in the MEMS area and has generated multiple automotive accelerometer and pressure sensor/ASIC designs. He received a BS in electrical engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology, an MS in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Memsic manufactures CMOS microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) integrated circuit products for sensors used in consumer and automotive applications.

The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
