R. Winn Hardin, Senior News Editor

The old saw, itoo much is never enough,i could be the credo of any soldier going into battle. Information is power. Advanced imaging systems and defense systems can produce information streams in the gigabits per second, pushing the electronic wiring systems in airplanes and tanks to the limit. In the past, expanding the electronic system was the answer. Now, however, defense designers have to do more with less, both in the physical and the fiscal realms. The key to many of these new systems will be the seamless integration of electronics and photonics.
