Mitsui to Market Three-Five Systems' Microdisplays
Aug 1999
TEMPE, Ariz., Aug. 4 -- Three-Five Systems Inc. and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. of Japan have finalized an agreement under which Mitsui will handle marketing, sales and distribution in Japan for Three-Five Systems' advanced display product lines, including its microdisplay technology. The agreement with Mitsui marks the entry of Three-Five Systems' advanced display products into the Japanese market.
The agreement covers all three advanced display products currently in or nearing production at Three Five Systems -- liquid crystal intense display, liquid crystal active drive, and liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS). The LCoS product, which is scheduled to commence production in the first quarter of 2000, is Three-Five's microdisplay technology, a thumbnail-size display with the resolution of a high-definition television screen. The microdisplay is expected to serve as the technology springboard for a variety of new products, including large viewing screens, high-definition computer monitors and televisions, and mobile telephones with video display links to remote computer terminals and television broadcasts.
