Tokyo-based distributor Opto-Line Inc. has signed agreements with CVI Laser Optics and Melles Griot KK of Japan – two brands of the Idex Optics & Photonics (IOP) platform – to carry and supply the companies’ optics products in Japan. The news came in March, one month after IOP announced that CVI Melles Griot would rebrand as two companies: CVI Laser Optics and Melles Griot. Opto-Line has represented Semrock Inc., the first member of the IOP platform, since 2003.

Sony Business Solutions Corp. has signed an agreement to distribute video display provider Prysm Inc.’s proprietary laser phosphor display (LPD) technology in Japan. The agreement will help push Prysm’s LPD technology into new markets, said Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO of California-based Prysm. LPD products provide a uniform picture quality over life and offer contrast, fill factors and the fast response time required for brilliant video with longer life spans, the company said.

Following a €13.5 million (about $17.5 million) investment, Trumpf Laser has opened its new solid-state laser development center in Schramberg, Germany. The 6200-sq-m structure houses both office space and laboratories, with all development activity consolidated under a single roof rather than scattered around the Black Forest site.
