Laser measurement equipment maker Ophir Photonics of Darmstadt, Germany, has opened a new office there and hired former Synrad executive Christian Dini to serve as its general manager. Ophir Spiricon Europe will provide customers across the continent with sales, recalibration and repair services for all Ophir power and energy meters and Spiricon and Photon beam analyzers. The company is a brand of Newport Corp.

' Optical component, assembly and subsystem supplier Gooch & Housego plc of Ilminster, England, has opened a sales office in Nagoya, Japan, under the management of optics sector veteran Masashi Wada. Gooch & Housego Japan KK is the result of 25 years of business in Japan across various market sectors with the assistance of distribution partners. The company was established with financial support from the Japan External Trade Organization and the Greater Nagoya Initiative Center.

Yenista Optics of Lannion, France, has opened an office in Singapore offering technical support, and repair and calibration services to its Asia-Pacific customers. The company also will offer repair services for Photonetics’ and Nettest’s Tunics and Osics equipment. The company recently opened a similar center in Shanghai.

Melles Griot KK has replaced its Shibuya office with one in the Tokyo suburb of Minami-Ikebukuro. The company’s Japanese sales headquarters is based in Tokyo, and its manufacturing components operate in Tamagawa. Melles Griot, a unit of Idex Corp., manufactures and supplies optical components.

Digital-camera manufacturer Point Grey Research Inc. of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, has expanded its headquarters to support an increased demand for its USB 3.0 and GigE camera and FireWire lines. The 15,000-sq-ft addition more than doubles Point Grey’s production area, bringing the entire facility to 55,000 sq ft.
