QuickTurn Optics, a rapid prototyping service for custom optical assemblies and components, is now available from JML Optical Industries of Rochester, N.Y. The service allows the components to be delivered in three to four weeks. The service has been used to fabricate products ranging from a 10-element assembly to single-element lenses and mirrors in quantities from four to 25 units.

TÜV Rheinland has opened a new laboratory in Irvine, Calif., offering local manufacturers, retailers and service providers a variety of testing and certification programs. The programs include product safety, ZigBee Alliance and market access certifications for Smart Grid, medical, lighting and information technology, and electrical equipment. Corporate social responsibility audits and programs also are offered. The 5300-sq-ft office expands the company’s existing network of laboratories in the US. The international company is based in Cologne, Germany.

LightPath Technologies of Orlando, Fla., has signed an agreement with AceXon Technologies to distribute its optical products throughout Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. “Since 2004, AceXon has developed strong relationships with OEM customers in a variety of optoelectronic markets ranging from industrial to scientific to medical,” said LightPath CEO Jim Gaynor. “AceXon has a strong emphasis on laser-based applications, distributing DPSS [diode-pumped solid-state], fiber, gas lasers as well as laser diodes. Many of these lasers can be used with the optics and optical assemblies that LightPath produces, making this agreement a natural fit.”

Glossary
hyperspectral imaging
Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced imaging technique that captures and processes information from across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike traditional imaging systems that record only a few spectral bands (such as red, green, and blue in visible light), hyperspectral imaging collects data in numerous contiguous bands, covering a wide range of wavelengths. This extended spectral coverage enables detailed analysis and characterization of materials based on their spectral signatures. Key...
machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
