Murad Alam Named ASLMS President; SPIE Journal Pegs Bennett Landman as Editor: People in the News: 05/24/23

WAUSAU, Wis., May 24, 2023 — Murad Alam was introduced as president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery during the annual business meeting on April 15. Alam is vice-chair of dermatology; professor of dermatology, otolaryngology, and surgery; and chief of the cutaneous and aesthetic surgery section at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bennett A. Landman of Vanderbilt University will become editor-in-chief of Journal of Medical Imaging, published by SPIE, effective Jan. 1, 2024. Landman, professor and department chair of electrical and computer engineering, succeeds Maryellen Giger, who was editor of the journal starting in 2014.

HERZOGENRATH, Germany — AIXTRON SE will introduce an executive committee to support CEO Felix Grawert and CFO Christian Danninger. Due to personal reasons, current COO Jochen Linck will not renew his contract, which ends in September. The executive committee will be introduced in October.

NUREMBERG, Germany — VIA optronics AG, a supplier of interactive display systems and solutions, named Udo Zimmer as a member of the supervisory board and chairman of the audit committee. Zimmer has over 30 years of senior management experience, including serving as CEO and CFO at Rema Tip Top AG.

VICTOR, N.Y. — New Scale Technologies named Christopher Meetze sales manager for the company’s standard and custom micropositioning product line. The 20-plus-year industry veteran spent more than 18 years at Navitar, a manufacturer of precision optics, including in regional business management and regional, industrial, and international sales management.

DANVERS, Mass. — SemiNex Corp., a manufacturer of high-power laser diode-based devices and optical amplifiers, appointed Sinclair Vass vice president of global sales. Before joining SemiNex, Vass was founder of Vass Photonics Consulting. He also held several executive leadership roles within the industry, including CCO officer at Velodyne Lidar, corporate senior vice president and president of the laser optics business unit at Focuslight Technologies, and vice president of worldwide product management, sales, marketing, and customer service at VIAVI Solutions.

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (AOI), a provider of fiber optic access network products, appointed Todd McCrum senior vice president and general manager of broadband access. McCrum spent 27 years in product marketing and business development for Scientific Atlanta, continuing after its acquisition by Cisco Systems in 2009. He most recently served as Cisco’s vice president of marketing for two years before leaving the company earlier this year.
