BIRKERØD, Denmark, Sept. 11, 2009 – NKT Photonics A/S of Denmark said it has opened a subsidiary, NKT Photonics Inc., in Morganville, N.J., to serve its growing North American market.

“We have done this successfully before in central Europe by opening NKT Photonics GmbH in Germany four years ago,” said Chuong Tran, vice president of sales and marketing. “NKT Photonics Inc. will entirely focus on providing sales support for new customers and forthcoming public tenders in North America as well as technical support for already deployed NKT Photonics products in this geographical region.”

NKT Photonics, part of the Danish industrial conglomerate NKT Holding A/S, was formed in June through the merger of Crystal Fibre, a commercial supplier of microstructured specialty fiber, and Koheras, a maker of ultraprecise fiber lasers such as the SuperK supercontinuum white light lasers. NKT’s products are used in the materials processing, biophotonics, metrology, optical sensors, communications, test and measurement, high-resolution spectroscopy and lidar markets.

The offices of NKT Photonics in Morganville, located at 1400 Campus Drive West, officially opened Sept. 1. The company can contacted at (732) 972-9937.

Glossary
amplifier
A device that enlarges and strengthens a signal's output without significantly distorting its original waveshape. There are amplifiers for acoustical, optical and electronic signals.
lidar
Lidar, short for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape and characteristics of objects and surfaces. Lidar systems typically consist of a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), all integrated into a single system. Here is how lidar works: Laser emission: A laser emits laser pulses, often in the form of rapid and repetitive laser...
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
