OIDA Issues Report on Fiber Optic Sensors

The Optical Industry Development Association (OIDA) has released a report based on the results of its 2005 Fiber Optic Sensor Workshop. Available to association members, the document includes the organization’s fiber optic sensor road map as well as analysis of the optoelectronic sensor market. The purpose of the workshop was to reach a consensus on optoelectronic sensor technologies, competition and potential markets for the sensors, obstacles to be overcome, and the role of the association in improving profit for the industry.

Any device in which variations in the transmitted power or the rate of transmission of light in optical fiber are the means of measurement or control. Fibers can be used to measure temperature, pressure, strain, voltage, current, liquid level, rotation and particle velocity.
