Semrock.jpgThe 2008 catalog from Semrock Inc. showcases optical filters for biotechnology and analytical instrumentation. The 64-page, full-color publication features more than 70 new products. Among the additions to the BrightLine series fluorescence filters are sets that have been optimized for fluorescence in situ hybridization clinical-scale genetic screening and the BrightLine Basics sets, with “no burn-out durability” and performance that is competitive with soft-coated fluorescence filters. Additions to the RazorEdge family of ultrasteep edge filters for Raman spectroscopy are included, along with the MaxLamp mercury line filters that efficiently select the arc lamp lines of 254 and 365 nm. Tutorial notes are provided.

optical filters
An optical element that blocks or transmits a selected wavelength of light. Optical filters can either be absorption filters or interference filters. Absorption filters absorb any unwanted wavelengths while the interference filter will use the effects of constructive and destructive superposition to transmit only the selected wavelength.
