OSA, Thorlabs Partner on Industry Fellowship

The OSA Foundation has launched a fellowship program, a competitive optics research and development placement for postdoctoral professionals.

The fellowship will pair a qualified early career professional with a research opportunity in the division of ultrafast lasers, advanced imaging systems or novel optoelectronic devices at Thorlabs Inc. of Newton, N.J.

"The OSA Foundation fellowship offers young professionals an opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job research experience in the field of optics and photonics, and provides insights and inspiration into career paths that students often do not get in the classroom," said Scott Edwards, senior director of the OSA Foundation.

The application process for the inaugural fellowship will be administered by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The program is open to recent postdoctoral graduates who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or eligible nonresidents holding appropriate visas.

Thorlabs will review the applicants and make the final decision on the fellowship award. The successful applicant will receive a stipend, health benefits and travel funding to enhance professional development.
