PAN-European Network Will Connect Innovation Hubs, Laser-Based Manufacturing Experts

O PORRIÑO, Spain, Sept. 21, 2020 — A new initiative aims to connect digital innovators in Europe with experts in laser-based manufacturing. Called PULSATE, the project formally brings together a consortium of competency centers with high-level expertise in laser-based advanced and additive manufacturing and digitalization; the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC); and small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs).

PULSATE will focus principally on sectors in industry with high influence potential, such as the medical device, electronics, automotive, aeronautics, energy, and industrial equipment sectors. It will also promote the adoption, implementation, and development of laser-based advanced and additive manufacturing, with a focus on service digitalization, and business models to which laser-based manufacturing technology has potential to contribute.

Digital innovation hubs, public institutions, and financial and business development entities are among those PULSATE will support. According to project coordinator Pablo Romero from Aimen Centro Tecnologico, the project plans to support more than 60 SMEs through more than €4 million in direct funding for proof-of-concept experiments, and more than €1 million in support services.

PULSATE has received funding from the European Union’s 2020 research and innovation program.
