Photon Control Sells Spectral Equipment to Simon Fuller University

Burnaby, British Columbia-based photonic sensor developer Photon Control Inc. announced it has received an order for five spectrometers and other spectral equipment from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby to equip a new biomedical engineering facility. Professor Andrew Rawicz, founder and chair of SFU's biomedical engineering program, said the spectrometers, which can operate autonomously without having to interface with a PC or laptop, will be used for research and development and for teaching. Initially developed as part of Photon's interferometric technology for temperature and pressure sensing in harsh industrial environments, the spectrometers have been sold to commercial customers and OEMs since last year.

Glossary
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
