A supplier of laser-based measurement systems to the North American marketplace, Polytec PI Inc., based in Tustin, Calif., has become Polytec Inc. This action, which completes the separation of Polytec and Physik Instrumente (PI) North American operations, was implemented in part to enhance service to customers of both companies.

Michael Townsend, Polytec's president, said the company took this step so that each can focus on its distinct markets and can build on its own brand awareness. The reorganization reflects the physical and financial separation of the two parent businesses in Germany, Polytec GmbH and Physik Instrumente GmbH, in 2002.
