QED Opens New Facility

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 9, 2011 — QED Technologies International Inc. announced the opening of a renovated manufacturing facility for its new division, QED Optics. The facility is equipped with magnetorheological finishing (MRF), polishing and subaperture stitching interferometry (SSI) metrology systems and with a metrology tower for measuring large-aperture optics.

QED Optics specializes in polishing or metrology of flats, spheres, on- and off-axis aspheres, free-form optics and cylinders, and can work with optical components ranging from ~1 mm to 1 m in diameter. It employs its company's MRF and SSI technologies.

The company also will help customers manage the whole optics fabrication process, from securing raw materials to shipping the final coated optical component.

Mike DeMarco, former North American sales manager for QED Technologies, is now business manager for QED Optics. The company has also appointed technical, business and engineering staff to work in the new facility.
