Quanergy, Teledyne FLIR Collaborate on Infrastructure Security

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 12, 2023 — Lidar security solutions provider Quanergy and Teledyne FLIR have partnered to develop an integrated solution that addresses security challenges facing critical infrastructure environments. The collaborators will fuse Quanergy’s Q-Track 3D lidar sensor with FLIR’s Elara DX-Series multispectral security camera. The combination will deliver an event-to-action workflow where the camera, powered by actionable intelligence from the lidar system, can continuously track a bad actor throughout the entire perimeter of a site, regardless of harsh weather conditions or poor lighting.

According to the companies, critical infrastructure environments including utilities, data centers, and airports often feature uneven terrain and numerous obstacles, which are compounded by inadequate lighting conditions that hinder situational awareness. In response, users have historically increased the sensitivity settings on their existing systems, resulting in a surge of false alarms and onsite guard services, which may be costly.

FLIR’s Elara DX-Series combines thermal and visible light imagers to enable operators to monitor large areas in complete darkness, glaring light, and adverse weather. The companies said that the integration of Quanergy’s 3D lidar sensors with the multispectral security camera offering addresses obstructions by forming a mesh network in which an object’s information can be passed from sensor to sensor, resulting in the continued observation of potential threats. In addition, Quanergy’s Q-Track technology incorporates advanced perception software.

Matt Strautman, director of global business development for security at Teledyne FLIR, said that the partnership will result in a solution that operates in areas where the company is unable to use its sensors alone for detection. “The combination of our two sensors not only helps with threats of intrusion but improves safety by being able to quickly locate and track targets in all types of dangerous situations/terrains/areas,” he said.

machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
lidar
Lidar, short for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape and characteristics of objects and surfaces. Lidar systems typically consist of a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), all integrated into a single system. Here is how lidar works: Laser emission: A laser emits laser pulses, often in the form of rapid and repetitive laser...
